Cargo turnover increases at Port of Baku
Cargo turnover at the Baku International Sea Trade Port (Port of Baku) exceeded 6.3 million tonnes in 2022, which is 13.6 per cent more than in 2021.
The remarks came on February 20 from the Port’s official Khudayar Hasanli, according to Report.
According to him, cargo turnover between Baku and Turkmen seaports amounted to nearly 3.36 million tonnes (53 per cent of total volume), with Kazakhstan ports – over 2.38 million tonnes (38 per cent), and with other ports - 571,000 tonnes.
Hasanli noted that the share of transit cargo was 90 per cent of the port's total cargo turnover.
The official opening ceremony of the Port of Baku was held on May 14, 2018, in the presence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The Port is a key hub in Azerbaijan's transport grid, and a free trade zone for global, regional, and local companies.
Currently, a ferry terminal, a dry cargo terminal, and a Ro-Ro terminal operate in the harbour, all of which were commissioned as part of the first phase of construction activities.
The port has a handling capacity of 15 million tonnes of dry cargo and 100,000 containers.
