Catholic prayer service held in Baku to honor Bartholomew the Apostle PHOTO
On August 24, on the day of memory of Bartholomew the Apostle - the heavenly patron of the city of Baku, in the Old City - Icherisheher, near the Maiden Tower, a Catholic prayer service was performed.
As Caliber.Az was informed in the Apostolic Prefecture of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, a group of local and foreign Catholics made a small pilgrimage toward the Maiden Tower, where, according to legend, Saint Bartholomew died.
The Catholics living in Azerbaijan delivered, at the request of Bartholomew the Apostle, prayers to God for the blessing of Azerbaijan and the entire world.
The celebration continued in the Catholic Church.
Every August 24, the Catholic community of Azerbaijan celebrates the memory of St. Bartholomew, one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ, who, according to ancient legend, was the first to preach the Gospel on the lands of our country. The memory of St. Bartholomew is highly respected by the Orthodox and Catholics of Azerbaijan. He is also revered by both churches as a prayer intercessor and protector of Azerbaijan.
