COP29 presidency urges progress on Baku Adaptation Roadmap
The COP29 Presidency concluded its participation at the Pre-COP summit in Brasilia, the final round of negotiations ahead of COP30 in Belém, calling on all Parties to fulfil their climate finance commitments.
During the summit, the COP29 President and Lead Negotiator emphasised the need for tangible progress on adaptation measures, Caliber.Az reports, citing COP29 on X.
They urged Parties to maintain momentum on the Baku Adaptation Roadmap, a framework designed to advance the Global Goal on Adaptation, and stressed its importance in supporting Brazil’s vision of COP30 as an implementation-focused conference.
The Baku Adaptation Roadmap (BAR), launched at COP29 in November 2024, is a strategic framework aimed at advancing the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) under the Paris Agreement. It seeks to enhance understanding of regional climate impacts and supports the implementation of national adaptation plans and nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
The roadmap emphasizes the exchange of knowledge, experience, and information related to implementing the UAE Framework for Global Climate Resilience. It also aims to identify potential inputs to future global stocktakes related to achieving the GGA.
The BAR is designed to be a flexible and evolving process, with modalities developed by the chairs of the Subsidiary Bodies, taking into account party submissions. It underscores the importance of multilateral cooperation and the sharing of best practices to enhance adaptation efforts globally.
