Demand for Middle Corridor holds up despite global fluctuations — EBRD
The development of trade along the Middle Corridor brings benefits not only to Central Asia but also to Europe, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said.
Alkis Drakinos, EBRD Regional Director for the South Caucasus, made the remarks at the Southeast Europe and Trans-Caspian Business Summit in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He highlighted that growing demand in trade, energy, and infrastructure creates a stable need for the Middle Corridor, regardless of global market fluctuations.
“Central Asia is experiencing a demographic boom. Societies there are very young, economies are producing more, and needs are rising. But trade benefits are not limited to Europe. EU countries not only import resources like energy but also export their goods to the region’s rapidly growing population,” Drakinos said.
He added that this creates a sustainable trend, with trade volumes increasing over time, making the corridor’s long-term development fully justified. “For market participants with options, it’s far better not to rely on a single route or logistics channel. A whole ecosystem of transport options is the real source of resilience,” he concluded.
