Deputy FM: Azerbaijan’s NAM chairmanship praised as one of most dynamic in history
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister and COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev has said that Azerbaijan’s more than four-year tenure as chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is being hailed as one of the longest and most active periods in the organisation’s history, highlighted by a range of important initiatives.
"Under the guidance of President Aliyev, Azerbaijan spearheaded several institutional reforms within NAM. Among the most significant was the creation of the Movement’s Youth Organisation - a landmark achievement aimed at fostering youth engagement and leadership," he said, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“The founding assembly of the Youth Organisation was held in Shusha, Azerbaijan’s cultural capital, where the Shusha Declaration was adopted. This reflects the strategic priority Azerbaijan places on youth policy within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement,” Rafiyev stated.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an international organisation of countries that consider themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. The core principle of NAM is to advocate for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of nations, particularly those from the developing world. It emphasizes peaceful coexistence, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and the promotion of global justice. Over the decades, the movement has played an important role in addressing issues such as colonialism, apartheid, and economic inequality.
