Foreign journalists visit Fuzuli, mosque in Merdinli village
The Non-Aligned Movement’s Contact Group in response to COVID-19 has visited a mosque in Merdinli village as part of a trip to the Fuzuli district.
“Only a few of the dozens of mosques in Karabakh remained intact as a result of the Armenian occupation,” Senior adviser to the special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the liberated territories of the Karabakh Economic Region (except for the Shusha region) Araz Imanov told foreign journalists, Report informs.
He noted that the mosques were desecrated, and the Armenians kept cattle and pigs there.
“We are not restoring this mosque, because we want the guests to see what the Armenians have turned it into. As you can see, there are a lot of land plots suitable for farming and livestock. However, they used mosques for this purpose,” Imanov said.
Further, the journalists visited the reservoir on the Kondelen River.
Imanov noted that the reservoirs in Karabakh could be used for agriculture, irrigation, etc., but the Armenians destroyed them during 30 years of occupation of the Azerbaijani territories.
He noted that in this regard, one of the main problems of this district was the change in the direction of the rivers.
"That's why this district is arid. There is no greenery or trees. Everything was destroyed," Imanov added.
The foreign journalists also visited the centre of Fuzuli, where they were provided with information and photographs of the views of the city before the destruction.
