Georgia remains hopeful for EU, NATO membership
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced that the government has no plans to change or remove Article 78 of the Constitution, which expresses Georgia's aspiration to join the EU and NATO.
"I can say unequivocally that we do not plan to remove or amend Article 78," Kobakhidze stated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
On May 14, the Georgian Parliament passed the "Foreign Influence Transparency" law despite widespread protests. This move triggered sharp statements from the EU and the US, straining their relations with Georgia. On May 18, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili vetoed the law, but the Parliament overrode her veto on May 28. Numerous non-governmental organisations have stated that they will refuse to register if the law is passed, arguing that it is unfair to label them as entities advancing "foreign interests."
