Georgia seeks stronger role in China’s Belt and Road initiative, PM says
Georgia is working to strengthen its position within China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and reinforce its role as a key link between Europe and Asia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze emphasised that Georgia’s strategic location has historically made it a bridge between the East and the West, and the government is committed to enhancing this role through active participation in the BRI, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
He said the project presents major opportunities for the country and that authorities are taking all necessary steps to boost Georgia’s function as a vital transit hub.
The prime minister noted that the government is investing heavily in infrastructure development — including motorways, seaports, airports, and railways — to strengthen the country’s connectivity and position it as a significant player in global trade routes.
Kobakhidze also highlighted the importance of the Middle Corridor initiative, describing it as a key element in fostering economic partnerships and trade relations across regions. He said the corridor, which connects China, Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, offers an interesting route for deepening regional economic and trade cooperation.
