Kazakhstan to redirect Kashagan oil to China after CPC attacks
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has announced plans to adjust export routes for oil from the Kashagan field after drone strikes on Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) infrastructure, redirecting a portion of the oil to China.
The ministry emphasised that the attacks on the CPC marine terminal did not lead to a complete halt in exports, with shipments continuing via existing port infrastructure under enhanced safety protocols, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazinform News Agency.
“At present, the ministry, together with shippers, is working to redistribute oil volumes. Measures have been taken to redirect a certain amount of Kashagan oil to the PRC. The situation is under constant control of the Ministry of Energy,” a statement reads.
The incident occurred on November 29 at 06:06 Astana time, when unmanned boats destroyed the remote mooring device (SPM-2) in Novorossiysk seaport waters.
The Government of Kazakhstan has taken the situation under special control.
On November 30, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally lodged a protest over the attack.
