Kremlin reacts to US ex-president’s assassination attempt
Press Secretary for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov has emphasised Russia's stance against violence in political processes.
He has commented on the recent assassination attempt on US ex-president and current presidential race participant Donald Trump, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
"Russia has always condemned and we condemn any violence during the political struggle," Peskov added.
He addressed concerns over the safety of Donald Trump following the attempted assassination, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
"It was obvious to all outside observers that the life of the US ex-president and participant in the new presidential race, Donald Trump, was in danger," Peskov remarked, acknowledging the severity of the incident that unfolded.
Reflecting on the broader context, Peskov commented on what he described as the US administration's influence on domestic politics, both directly and indirectly.
"After numerous attempts to eliminate candidate Trump from the political arena, first using legal tools, courts, prosecutors, attempts to politically discredit the candidate, it was obvious to all outside observers that his life was in danger," Peskov stated, suggesting parallels between international and domestic political strategies.
"The style of forceful decisions has also appeared in the domestic arena," Peskov continued, hinting at what he perceives as a shift in political tactics within the US.
The Kremlin's statements come amidst heightened international attention on the safety of political figures and the implications of political violence.
Peskov's remarks underscore Russia's official position on maintaining stability and condemning any acts of violence during political discourse.
The incident has sparked global debate over the safety of public figures in the midst of electoral campaigns, highlighting ongoing concerns about the intersection of politics and security.
US ex-President Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt on July 13 at a Pennsylvania rally, days before he was to accept the Republican nomination for a third time. A barrage of gunfire set off panic, and a bloodied Trump, who said he was shot in the ear, was surrounded by Secret Service and hurried to his SUV as he pumped his fist in a show of defiance.
