Kremlin sounds alarm over alleged covert nuclear plans for Kyiv
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused the United Kingdom and France of violating international law by attempting to supply Ukraine with nuclear weapons.
“You have already heard our Parliament urging colleagues in England and France to initiate parliamentary investigations. This is a blatant violation of all standards, principles, and relevant provisions of international law,” Peskov said, commenting on reports from Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) about London and Paris allegedly working to provide Kyiv with a nuclear bomb, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
According to the SVR, the UK and France believe that arming Kyiv with nuclear weapons would allow Ukraine “to aspire to more advantageous terms of ceasing the hostilities.” Their plans reportedly involve the covert transfer of European-made components, equipment, and technology. Among the options considered is the French small-size TN-75 warhead, originally designed for the M51.1 submarine-launched ballistic missile. The SVR added that “Berlin has prudently refused” to participate in this “dangerous venture.”
In response, Russian lawmakers have called for investigations at both the national and international levels. The Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, proposed that the UN Security Council, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons conduct inquiries into London’s and Paris’ alleged intentions, in line with their respective mandates.
