New Azerbaijani Party to nominate Ilham Aliyev in upcoming snap presidential elections
The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will nominate incumbent President Ilham Aliyev in the upcoming early presidential elections on February 7, 2024.
"According to the charter adopted at the last congress held in 2021, the authority to nominate a candidate for the presidency was given to the Board of Directors."
"For many years, everyone said that whoever liberates Karabakh will be our eternal president. Ilham Aliyev earned this position and title with his 20-year policy, serving the people of Azerbaijan and liberating the occupied territories. I think that every patriotic Azerbaijani is of this opinion. Everyone will express their opinion at the meeting of the Board of Directors. NAP's opinion on this is firm," Budagov said.
Ilham Aliyev has been serving as the president of Azerbaijan since October 31, 2003, and is the fourth president of the country.
He was reelected for a second term in 2008 and was allowed to run in elections indefinitely in 2013 and 2018 as part of the 2009 constitutional referendum, which removed term limits for presidents.
Throughout his electoral campaign, President Aliyev has been a member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, which he has headed since 2005.
