"Official Paris and some European officials take a clearly pro-Armenian stance" Azerbaijani political analyst talks to Al Jazeera
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Community of Azerbaijan, journalist and political scientist Anastasia Lavrina had an interview with Al Jazeera Channel (قناة الجزيرة).
Caliber.Az reports that in the interview she presented the channel's viewers with arguments on reasons behind Azerbaijan's refusal to participate in pentalateral meeting scheduled for October 5 in Granada, Spain:
1) At a time when Azerbaijan is making every effort to sign a peace agreement with Armenia as soon as possible and to reintegrate the Armenian population of Garabagh, official Paris and some European officials take a clearly pro-Armenian stance, unjustifiably making false accusations against Azerbaijan.
2) In 1993 France signed 4 UN Security Council resolutions demanding immediate withdrawal of Armenian forces from Azerbaijani territories, and now it openly opposes Azerbaijan and its legitimate right to defend its sovereignty.
3) Paris has openly declared that it will arm Armenia. Against the background of peace talks, this is clearly not the best solution.
4) Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity and its sovereignty by its own forces only three decades after the adoption of UNSC resolutions and is now ready to develop a peace agenda in the region.
5) Azerbaijan proposed and insisted that Türkiye should also take part in the five-party meeting. This is quite logical. Türkiye has great influence in the region. The development of the peace agenda will affect not only the future relations between Baku and Yerevan but also between Ankara and Yerevan. Therefore, Türkiye's participation in the negotiations is quite logical. However, this opportunity was not created.
The interview sparked great interest from Al Jazeera viewers.
