Over 1,700 Armenian trucks delayed at Upper Lars border crossing
Currently, more than 1,700 Armenian trucks are waiting in an electronic queue to pass through the Upper Lars checkpoint, which is the primary border crossing between Russia and Georgia in North Ossetia.
There are a total of 5,261 vehicles queued up, with 1,729 of those being Armenian trucks awaiting entry into Georgia, Caliber.Az reports referring to the Road Traffic Organization Center of North Ossetia.
In recent days, the Upper Lars checkpoint has been experiencing severe congestion, leading to extended waiting times for travellers.
This bottleneck is due to a combination of high traffic volumes and delays on the "neutral road" section. The situation is further complicated by the vacation season, which has increased the number of travelers, and a high volume of trucks transporting fruits and vegetables.
Statistics indicate that approximately 150 Armenian trucks pass through the Upper Lars checkpoint each day. The Georgian Military Road remains the only active land route linking Armenia with Russia via Georgia, making it a critical corridor for trade and transportation between the two countries.
