Pakistan condemns so-called "elections" in Azerbaijan’s Garabagh
Pakistan's Foreign Office spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch has said her country condemns the holding of so-called "elections" in Garabagh (Karabakh).
"Pakistan considers Karabakh as the sovereign territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan and any attempt by the illegally established regime to hold so-called "elections" is legally and morally reprehensible. Such an attempt is also a gross violation of the UN Charter and the principles of existing international law," Trend quotes her as saying in a statement.
To recall, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has earlier called on the international community to strongly condemn these "elections", noting that "holding the so-called “elections” once again clearly shows that Armenia and the puppet regime created by it, which have taken steps to maintain the status quo and continue its occupation policy, are not really interested in the peace process, on the contrary, have taken the path of provocation and escalating the situation.
In addition, the EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Türkiye and Moldova, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have also denounced the so-called "elections" held by the separatist regime in Garabagh.
The "parliament" in Garabagh, Azerbaijan's Armenian-populated territory, voted on September 9 to nominate a new separatist “president”, a move harshly criticized by Azerbaijani authorities, as well as, the international community.
The election of Samvel Shakhramanyan as the “new president” of the separatist rule followed the resignation of Arayik Harutyunyan as “president” of the region on September 1.
