Port of Baku becomes UN Global Compact member
Baku International Sea Trade Port has been accepted as a member of the UN Global Compact.
The decision to include the Port of Baku in the relevant agreement, which now brings together 18 seaports and port management companies, was announced in a letter from UN Assistant Secretary General and UN Global Compact Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo to the Port of Baku, Report informs, citing the port.
The letter also highlights the UN system's support for the port's efforts to implement the eleven universal principles of the UN Global Compact and promote a more sustainable and inclusive global economy.
The Port of Baku, as the region's central logistics and transport hub, is committed to sustainable business practices and seeks to align its own operating principles by influencing the supply chain, and hence contributes to the global sustainable development agenda.
The port's plans and actions aim to contribute to eleven of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
