Russia condemns fatal strike on girls’ school in Iran
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the attack on a girls’ school in the Iranian city of Minab, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of children, TASS reports.
The Russian side called for an immediate cessation of hostilities by all parties in the conflict surrounding Iran and urged measures to ensure the safety of civilians across the region.
The ministry also expressed concern over the potential escalation of armed confrontation due to actions by the United States and Israel, emphasising that the protection of civilian infrastructure and populations must remain a top priority.
“We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities by all parties and for the unconditional prioritisation of comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of civilians and critical infrastructure in all countries of the region,” the ministry stated.
A devastating strike hit the Shajarah Tayyebeh girls' elementary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab on February 28, killing at least 150 people, most of them children, according to Iranian state media, health officials, and local authorities. Nearly 100 others were wounded in the attack.
The attack occurred during the opening wave of the ongoing U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which began on February 28 and continues on March 2.
