Russia detains man accused of planning to join Ukrainian armed group

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Krasnodar region has detained a 27-year-old Russian citizen accused of planning to join a banned international terrorist organisation.

The man from the Kanevsky district allegedly made contact via Telegram with a representative of a Ukrainian armed formation designated as a terrorist organisation and prohibited in Russia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Investigators say he received instructions from a handler and attempted to leave the country before being detained by security officers.

A criminal case has been opened on charges related to preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
