Russia has no need for mass mobilisation, UN envoy says
Russia currently has no need for mass mobilisation, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said in comments to journalists, according to Russian media.
“At the moment, we do not need mass mobilisation, and as far as I know, it is neither planned nor expected,” Nebenzya said.
The diplomat also noted that Russian officials had already made several statements confirming that there was no need for mass mobilisation.
President Putin last ordered a mobilisation in September 2022, when a series of major battlefield setbacks prompted the Kremlin to call up 300,000 reservists in an effort to reinforce the front.
Since then, Moscow has avoided another highly unpopular mobilisation, instead relying largely on lucrative contracts to attract recruits.
Russia has enlisted around 1.3 million contract soldiers through this approach.
