Russia sounds alarm over US attacks on Iran: "Consequences will be negative"
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has condemned the US strikes on Iran, describing them as unprecedented and warning of their unpredictable and adverse consequences.
Speaking to local media, Peskov emphasized the gravity of the situation, Caliber.Az reports.
“Of course, these strikes that have taken place are unprecedented, and no one yet understands the consequences that will come. And the consequences will be negative,” he stated.
The Kremlin on June 23 voiced strong disapproval over the US airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, expressing “deep regret” at the escalation and confirming that Moscow had not been given prior notice. The Russian government reiterated its support for Tehran amid mounting regional tensions.
In his first public response to the incident, President Vladimir Putin characterized the strikes as “unprovoked aggression that has no justification,” during high-level talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov echoed the sentiment, telling reporters, “We, of course, condemn the growing number of participants in this conflict and the renewed escalation of tensions in the region, and we express deep regret in this regard.”
While neither Putin nor Peskov explicitly named the United States, their comments aligned with a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on June 22, which denounced the strikes as “irresponsible” and a “gross violation of international law.” The ministry warned that such actions risk severely destabilizing both regional and global security.
The strikes, which targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, have heightened tensions in the Middle East, eliciting strong reactions from various international actors.
Russia has repeatedly called for restraint and dialogue amid the rising conflict, urging all parties to avoid actions that could further exacerbate regional instability.
