Russian air defences intercept overnight raid, damage reported in Rostov region
Authorities in Russia’s southern Rostov region said a night-time aerial attack involving drones and missiles was repelled, with air defences destroying targets over several locations, including Taganrog and the Azov district, according to regional governor Yury Slyusar. No casualties were reported.
In a statement published on Telegram, Slyusar said falling debris from intercepted drones and a missile caused damage in multiple areas, including Rostov-on-Don, Bataysk, and the Myasnikovsky District.
In Taganrog, fragments from a drone damaged a garage at a private residence, though no fire developed. Emergency services said the situation was quickly brought under control.
In the village of Chaltyr in Myasnikovsky district, several residential properties sustained partial roof damage and shattered windows after debris impact, while a fire involving a tree was extinguished. Officials confirmed no injuries.
A more serious incident was reported in an industrial zone in the same district, where debris from a missile strike caused a fire and partial structural collapse of a warehouse building. The blaze was later contained.
In Rostov-on-Don, debris damaged windows and a gas pipeline in residential buildings in the Aeroklubovsky area, along with a freight vehicle and nearby vegetation. A separate fire broke out at a four-storey administrative building in the Firstomaysky district, officials said, adding that all fires were brought under control.
In Bataysk, roof structures and windows of a utility building were damaged after debris fell on Socialisticheskaya Street.
Authorities said air raid warnings remained in effect across the region and assessments of the damage were ongoing.
