Russian Duma approves life sentence for treason

Russia's State Duma deputies have approved in the third reading amendments suggesting life imprisonment for high treason, Kommersant reports.

The maximum punishment is now up to 20 years in a penal colony.

MPs also supported tougher penalties for terrorism.
