Criticism was voiced by Chechen leader and war promoter Ramzan Kadyrov and Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the infamous Russian paramilitary group "Wagner", heavily involved in the war in Ukraine, following which Lupin was dismissed from his role as Commander of the Russian Army Group Centre
