Saudi Arabia views Azerbaijan as "ideal partner" for hydrogen production

Azerbaijan, thanks to its robust energy infrastructure and substantial energy resources, is an ideal partner for Saudi Arabia in the production and transportation of hydrogen.

This statement was given by the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia to Azerbaijani local media outlet Report.

“Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan have significant potential for cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy, particularly in the development of clean hydrogen. Saudi Arabia is already a leader in hydrogen production, implementing several pilot projects, including the world’s largest green hydrogen production plant. Azerbaijan, with its strong energy infrastructure and abundant energy resources, is an ideal partner for hydrogen production and transportation,” the ministry noted.

The ministry further pointed to the already existing collaboration between the kingdom's first renewable energy company ACWA Power, who are involved in projects relating to, among others, solar energy and desalination plants, and SOCAR on projects aimed at developing clean hydrogen fuel sources.

“Together, we can share expertise and technologies in the production of hydrogen from renewable sources, as well as establish a reliable hydrogen supply chain for both domestic use and international export. This partnership could play a key role in the energy transition strategies of both countries,” the Saudi Ministry of Energy added.
