Turkish leader hopes for positive dialogue between Azerbaijan, Armenia
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed his support for the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The president made these remarks at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in the US, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He emphasised Ankara's hope for positive outcomes from the dialogue between the two countries.
"The normalisation of relations between Baku and Yerevan will also impact our relations with Armenia," President Erdogan noted.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Thomas Fitzsimons said that President of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan and Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova will meet in Geneva in October to discuss normalisation of relations between the two countries.
The bilateral meeting will be held for the third time during the 149th IPU assembly in Geneva, scheduled from October 13 to 17. As the exact date of the meeting has not been announced yet, Fitzsimons emphasised that the meeting aims to support peace efforts in the region. Simonyan and Gafarova previously met on May 16.
