Türkiye applauds Azerbaijan’s key role in Syria’s reconstruction
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that Türkiye expressed strong appreciation for Azerbaijan’s role in supporting the reconstruction of Syria.
Fidan made these remarks at the closing ceremony of the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Speaking to journalists, Fidan highlighted Baku’s cooperation with Ankara in areas critical to Syria’s stabilization, including national security, infrastructure redevelopment, and economic revitalization.
“Any support provided by Azerbaijan is deeply appreciated by us. We welcome all initiatives taken in this regard,” the minister stated, underscoring the value of Azerbaijan’s contributions in a region still recovering from over a decade of conflict.
Fidan further noted that the relationship between Türkiye and Azerbaijan extends beyond cultural and historical ties, describing their connection as a robust professional partnership between state institutions. This collaboration, he said, reflects a shared commitment to regional peace and development.
Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to supporting Syria in its post-conflict reconstruction efforts, emphasising the country’s willingness to contribute to initiatives aimed at restoring stability.
The remarks were made during a meeting in Antalya with Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa held during President Aliyev’s visit to Türkiye. At the meeting, President Aliyev welcomed the recent political changes in Syria and extended his congratulations to President al-Sharaa.
He noted that, in light of these developments, Azerbaijan had swiftly dispatched a delegation to Syria and reactivated its embassy in Damascus, which had remained closed for years due to the Assad regime’s policy. President Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan’s readiness to contribute to the reconstruction process in Syria, particularly in efforts aimed at consolidating national stability.
