UN, Azerbaijan to craft new 2026-2030 framework for sustainable development
A new UN-Azerbaijan framework document for the period 2026-2030 will be developed in close consultation and coordination with the Azerbaijani government, said Fioralba Shkodra, a Sustainable Development/UNSDCF Partnership and Program Officer at the United Nations Development Group.
Shkodra made this announcement during an event on "Identification of High-Level Strategic Priorities" focused on the UN-Azerbaijan Framework Document for 2026-2030", Caliber.Az reports.
She emphasized that the framework is a critical tool for planning and executing UN development activities within the country.
"The Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework is the most important instrument for the planning and implementation of UN development activities in each country," Shkodra said.
"Successful results have already been achieved in the implementation of the 2021-2025 framework between the UN and the government of Azerbaijan. Today’s event is aimed at defining the priorities for the next five-year framework."
The new document is expected to build on the achievements of the current framework, further strengthening the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations in advancing sustainable development goals.
To recall, at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024, a significant agreement was reached to enhance climate finance for developing nations. Developed countries committed to increasing annual climate finance contributions from the previous goal of $100 billion to $300 billion by 2035.
Additionally, the conference set a broader target to mobilize $1.3 trillion per year by 2035 from both public and private sources to support climate initiatives in developing countries.
