Azerbaijan detects some 810,000 mines, munitions in Garabagh since 1998
Chairman of the Azerbaijan Campaign Against Mines Public Association Hafiz Safikhanov has said about 810,000 mines and unexploded ordnance have been detected since the establishment of the Azerbaijan Republic Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), i.e. from 1998 to November 2020.
Safikhanov made the remarks at a press conference held in connection with the completion of the project "Preparation of a report on the problems caused by mines and unexploded ordnance in the liberated territories and its transfer to the international community", Report informs.
According to Safikhanov, from November 2020 to September 1 of this year, an area of 95,318 hectares was cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance, 93,410 mines and unexploded ordnance were discovered and neutralized.
Armenia planted land mines in Azerbaijani territory, not only during the 30-year-long occupation but also just days before leaving the Azerbaijani lands, as envisaged in the trilateral declaration to cause human casualties.
Civilians and military personnel are frequently maimed or killed as a result of mine explosions in Azerbaijan's liberated regions.
