Azerbaijan discloses number of landmine victims since 2020 war-end
Since November 2020, the number of landmine and unexploded ordnance casualties in Azerbaijan has reached 345, the Azerbaijani Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) told Caliber.Az.
On February 5, another Azerbaijani citizen, a resident of Hasangaya village, Aghdara district, Azer Mammadov (born in 1966) was blown up by a mine while grazing cattle and received a leg injury.
Following the liberation of its lands, Azerbaijan began operations in November 2020 to clear its lands of mines, booby traps, and different weaponry left behind by Armenian troops.
During the period from January 29 to February 4, 16 anti-tank mines, 78 anti-personnel mines, and 150 unexploded ordnance were found and neutralized in the liberated territories. The land of 336.5 hectares was cleared of mines.
The demining operations were carried out by the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan.
Armenia's indiscriminate placement of landmines in Azerbaijan remains a peril for innocent civilians.
