Azerbaijan rebuilding Kalbajar for autumn return of residents VIDEO

Efforts are underway to swiftly rebuild settlements in Azerbaijan's newly liberated Kalbajar district.

Residential construction and road development are progressing to facilitate the return of Kalbajar residents to their lands by this autumn, Caliber.Az reports.

Kalbajar, located in the southwestern part of Azerbaijan, was occupied by Armenian forces in April 1993 during the Karabakh conflict.

During the 44-day war in late 2020, Azerbaijani forces, supported by Türkiye, successfully recaptured the Kalbajar district along with several other occupied territories surrounding the Karabakh region. This military operation, which concluded with a ceasefire agreement brokered by Russia on November 10, 2020, resulted in Azerbaijan regaining control over its territories, including Kalbajar.

The liberation of Kalbajar marked a significant milestone for Azerbaijan, as it allowed for the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees who had been displaced since the early 1990s. The Azerbaijani government has since been engaged in efforts to rehabilitate and reconstruct the region, including infrastructure development, rebuilding homes, and preparing for the resettlement of displaced individuals.
