US Embassy in Armenia fails to disprove Caliber.Az's information

07 August 2024 23:53

The U.S. Embassy in Armenia responded to the widely resonant publication by Caliber.Az titled "US military enters Zangazur, delivering weapons, personnel."

Following our editorial advice, a correspondent from News.am reached out to the embassy regarding this article, receiving a brief message in return: “Eagle Partner 2024, a peacekeeping exercise designed to increase interoperability between the United States and Armenia, successfully concluded on July 24. We can confirm that all U.S. military equipment and personnel have departed Armenia.”

However, our article did not mention the Eagle Partner exercises at all! Joint Armenian-American military exercises are a topic of bilateral relations between the Republic of Armenia and the United States. Accordingly, the U.S. Embassy’s response, which pertains to these exercises, is not a refutation of our publication but rather a diversionary tactic, indirectly confirming the information we provided. Moreover, our article did not mention the exercises referred to in the embassy’s response.

Let us remind you that our publication detailed two specific Boeing C-17 military transport aircraft that made flights to Yerevan from U.S. military bases in Romania and a Middle Eastern country on August 2 and 3. This information understandably raises concerns for Azerbaijan, as, according to our sources, the Armenian Armed Forces received sniper rifles, night vision devices, specialized communication equipment, bulletproof vests for Armenian special forces, strike mini-drones, small-sized mines used by the U.S. Army, and other types of ammunition.

We are also concerned about the arrival of a group of American specialists of Armenian ethnicity, numbering up to 50 individuals, in Armenia. It is understandable that the U.S. is worried about a potential Iranian strike on Israel and is increasing its presence in regional satellite countries, including Pashinyan's Armenia. However, if the deployment of U.S. military personnel near the Armenia-Iran border is related to the Middle Eastern situation, the delivery of lethal weapons and other equipment to Armenia does not align with the “Iranian” rationale for U.S. actions in Armenia.

We would like to inform the U.S. Embassy in Armenia that we have photographs of the landing military transport aircraft at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport. Should there be further attempts to refute our material, we will publish these photographs in our publication. We urge the U.S. Embassy in Armenia to cease attempts to obscure the essence of our report and instead clarify the situation, which significantly increases tensions in the South Caucasus.
