Ambassador: Pakistan’s government, people highly appreciate Azerbaijan’s assistance
Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee has said that Islamabad is pleased with Azerbaijan’s participation in the donor conference and its assistance to Pakistan, which is highly appreciated by the government and the people of Pakistan.
Hayee was commenting on January 11 on the results of the international conference entitled "Climate Resilient Pakistan", Report informs.
The purpose of the conference was to attract the necessary funds to support the elimination of the consequences of the natural disaster that occurred in Pakistan in August 2022.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for the intention to allocate an additional $2 million for efforts to rehabilitate flood victims in Pakistan,” the ambassador added.
The diplomat reminded that the World Bank, together with various international agencies, comprehensively assessed the damage caused as a result of large-scale floods in Pakistan in the summer of 2022, and concluded that Pakistan would need about $30 billion for recovery.
It was predicted that half of this amount - about $15 billion would be required during the next three years, Hayee said.
The ambassador noted that Pakistan’s government has pledged to finance 50 per cent of the amount required for the restoration of flood-affected areas.
“Pakistan’s government, together with the United Nations, held a donor conference in Geneva on January 9 to collect the remaining 50 per cent of the amount. We are grateful that international partners and friendly countries have announced their commitment to support the efforts of Pakistan’s government at the Geneva Conference,” he added.
