Armenia, Azerbaijan agree on LNG, bitumen transit
Baku and Yerevan have reached an agreement on the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and bitumen to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, marking a notable development in economic cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement was announced by Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, in a statement published on Facebook, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
According to Papoyan, the two sides have agreed on the rail transportation of liquefied gas and bitumen via Azerbaijan. He noted that Armenian entrepreneurs are already able to make use of the new transit arrangement.
To recall, in October 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared the lifting of transit restrictions on goods bound for Armenia, which had been enforced during the period of Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories. Since that announcement, both direct and transit railway shipments have been successfully conducted along this route.
The inaugural shipment of Azerbaijani petroleum products reached Armenia in December 2025, comprising 1,220 tons of AI-95 gasoline.
