Armenia signals imminent final decision on CSTO membership
Armenia has declared that it is nearing a conclusive decision on its continued membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), amid mounting frustration with the alliance’s perceived inaction.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan stated that Armenia is no longer issuing subtle warnings but is openly voicing dissatisfaction with the CSTO, particularly in light of what Yerevan views as a lack of political solidarity following past attacks on its sovereign territory, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
"As for the CSTO, Armenia is not hinting, but directly saying that it cannot go on like this for long," Kostanyan said. "If CSTO partners, including Russia, will not make political statements, which were discussed many years ago after the attack on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, Armenia will make a final decision."
Armenia has repeatedly criticized the CSTO—particularly its dominant member, Russia—for failing to respond decisively to security incidents along its borders.
