Armenian media questions Pashinyan’s potential visit to Baku for COP29
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is expected to address the issue of Armenia's invitation to the UN Climate Change Conference COP29, scheduled to take place in Baku from November 11-22, during a press conference in August.
The Information and Public Relations Department of the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers revealed the Armenian PM's plans in response to the Armenian media's inquiry, Caliber.Az reports.
The Department had confirmed that they received a written inquiry regarding the invitation from Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev. The inquiry specifically asked when Armenia received the invitation and how the Armenian Prime Minister’s administration responded. Additionally, the inquiry sought to clarify whether Prime Minister Pashinyan plans to attend the conference in Baku and to provide details on Armenia’s position concerning Baku’s proposal for signing a document on the basic principles of good-neighbourly relations between the two countries. The response from the Armenian government indicated that Pashinyan would address these issues after his vacation, during the August press conference.
As reported, Azerbaijan has officially invited Armenia to participate in the 29th UN Climate Change Conference, COP29. The invitation was extended by Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, who also serves as the COP29 President. The invitation was directed to Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. To date, the Armenian Foreign Ministry has not responded to the invitation. A spokeswoman for the Ministry indicated that they will provide information if the issue is raised in the future.
