Armenian soldier charged with murdering fellow soldier

An Armenian soldier has been charged with the murder of another Armenian soldier at a combat position along the northeastern border on February 24.

The Investigative Committee reports that Avag Zakaryan was shot to death by a fellow soldier following a “personal dispute”, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

"In the course of preliminary investigation it was revealed that on February 24, around 17:55, at a combat position located in the north-eastern direction of the border of the Republic of Armenia, in a trench, a quarrel and a scuffle arose between the servicemen on combat duty - Private S.P. and Private Avag Zakaryan, during which Private S.P. loaded the weapon assigned to him and fired a single shot in the direction of Zakaryan, causing him a penetrating gunshot wound," the information says.

Zakaryan died at around 18:05-18:10 on the way to military hospital after receiving a gunshot wound.

The military serviceman S. P. was charged under Part 1 of Article 155 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. A petition was submitted to the court for a measure of restraint in the form of detention. The preliminary investigation is underway.
