Azerbaijan completes construction of substation, power line for Shafag solar plant in Jabrayil VIDEO
The construction of a 330/33 kV substation and a 7.5 km double-circuit 330 kV transmission line in Azerbaijan’s Jabrayil district, within the Eastern Zangezur economic region, has been completed, facilitating the integration of the Shafag solar plant into the country’s national grid.
The new substation and power lines, developed under a cooperation agreement between bp and Azerenergy, Caliber.Az reports via Azerenergy JSC.
The company stated that work on the newly built Jabrayil substation was complete and that transmission of the "green energy" generated would begin once the Shafag Solar Power Plant was constructed and operational.
Azərenergy noted that electricity produced at the Shafag plant will be transmitted via the Virtual Power Transfer Agreement (VPTA) to the 330 kV Jabrayil hub and then integrated into the national grid, with a similar volume directed to the Sangachal terminal.
“The project supports public-private partnership, reduces carbon emissions, conserves natural gas, and increases the share of renewable energy. Its implementation will make a significant contribution to the country’s green energy transition and energy security,” the company emphasised.
The 240 MW Shafag Solar Power Plant, being built by bp, is the first industrial-scale solar plant in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and the largest project in the region with direct foreign investment.
