Azerbaijan establishes alley of martyrs in Khojaly to commemorate genocide victims
The city of Khojaly, situated in the Karabakh region, is establishing an Alley of Martyrs to honour the victims of the Khojaly genocide, as announced by Shahmar Usubov, the head of the Khojaly region Executive Power.
"Work on laying the Alley of Martyrs is underway in the city of Khojaly. The identified remains of seven people found in the mass grave will be delivered and buried in Khojaly," Usubov said, according to Report.
The Khojaly genocide stands as a grim reminder of the systematic crimes and atrocities perpetrated by Armenia against Azerbaijanis. It remains one of the darkest chapters in the history of Azerbaijan, symbolizing the brutality and inhumanity of the conflict.
Khojaly, a town forever etched in memory for the tragedy that unfolded on February 26, 1992, witnessed a massacre of innocent civilians by Armenian armed formations, including the infamous involvement of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet army. The genocide resulted in the loss of 613 lives, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly individuals. Additionally, 1,275 civilians were taken prisoner, while the fate of 150 others remains unknown.
After enduring 31 years of occupation, Azerbaijan reclaimed control of the city following anti-terrorist measures against the separatist junta regime in Karabakh on September 19-20. The establishment of the Alley of Martyrs in Khojaly serves as a poignant tribute to the victims of the genocide, reaffirming the nation's commitment to honouring their memory and seeking justice for their untimely demise.
