Azerbaijan exports nearly 6 billion cubic metres of gas to Greece via TAP
Azerbaijan has exported around 5.6–6 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Greece via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) since the pipeline began operations, according to the country’s Energy Ministry.
The figures were highlighted during a meeting in Baku between Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Greece’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Maria Papakonstantinou, the ministry said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports via the Ministry of Energy.
Officials discussed the role of bilateral energy cooperation, noting that Azerbaijani gas supplies via TAP contribute to energy diversification, more competitive pricing, environmental considerations and Greece’s position as a regional energy hub.
The ministry said Greece imported about 1.1 billion cubic metres of gas from Azerbaijan last year alone. Since TAP became operational, total Azerbaijani gas exports to Greece have reached approximately 5.6 billion cubic metres.
Both sides also explored opportunities to expand cooperation beyond traditional energy supplies, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and the adoption of innovative technologies.
Plans for the next session of the Joint Commission on Economic, Industrial and Technological Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Greece were also discussed, with the meeting expected to take place in Athens.
Shahbazov also invited the Greek side to participate in upcoming events scheduled as part of Baku Energy Week, the ministry added.
