Azerbaijan, Italy’s Saipem explore main areas of cooperation
Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov has held a meeting with Alessandro Puliti, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Italy’s Saipem S.p.A., to discuss the main areas of cooperation with the company.
He wrote on his X account that the discussions addressed ongoing projects in energy, infrastructure, and the green transition, along with prospects for further diversifying joint activities, Caliber.Az reports.

The minister concluded that they also underscored the importance of unlocking the region’s renewable energy potential and ensuring the effective utilisation of existing resources.
Saipem has been active in Azerbaijan’s offshore oil and gas sector under a framework agreement signed in July 2024 with BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Limited and affiliates of SOCAR for work in the Caspian Sea.
Under that agreement, Saipem is set to operate the subsea‑construction vessel SCV Khankendi for marine operations on projects in the Azerbaijani sector — including both the fields of Azeri‑Chirag‑Gunashli and Shah Deniz.
In October 2025, Saipem was awarded three new offshore contracts — worth roughly $700 million in total, with about $600 million attributable to Saipem — to deliver a new compression platform and subsea pipelines for the Shah Deniz Compression project.
Azerbaijani authorities regularly highlight Saipem’s “long-term presence” in the country’s energy sector, its collaboration with local companies, and its interest in supporting Azerbaijan’s energy transition ambitions through technological innovation.
