Azerbaijan observes Ramadan: Honouring centuries-old traditions
Azerbaijan is celebrating the holiday of Ramadan on March 30 and 31.
The sacred holiday of Ramadan has been observed by Muslims since the year 622 according to the Hijri calendar, Caliber.Az reports.
Fasting during the month of Ramadan teaches people love for Allah, provides an opportunity to test their willpower and resilience, and encourages openness and honesty.
The history of fasting dates back to the month of Ramadan, during which the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spent time in Medina to observe the fast. The Quran was revealed during one of the last ten nights of Ramadan.
In Azerbaijan, Ramadan has been officially celebrated at the state level since 1993.
This year, the month of Ramadan in Azerbaijan began on March 1 according to the Gregorian calendar. As per the relevant resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, March 30 and 31 are observed as Ramadan holiday in Azerbaijan.
