Azerbaijan's efforts in promoting religious tolerance applauded by Romanian Jewish leader
During a visit by a delegation led by Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations of Azerbaijan, to Romania, a meeting took place with Silviu Wexler, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania.
Silviu Wexler shared insights into the history and culture of the Jewish community in Romania, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He also praised the active role Jewish communities play in public life in Azerbaijan, highlighting the country’s atmosphere of national and religious tolerance. Wexler emphasized the importance of promoting Azerbaijan's unique model of religious tolerance and coexistence as a positive example.
Ramin Mammadov, in turn, spoke about the efforts made under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to promote tolerance, interfaith, and intercultural dialogue within Azerbaijan. He pointed out that Azerbaijan provides Jewish communities and other religious groups with ample opportunities to preserve their traditions, language, and culture.
Mammadov further noted that Azerbaijan currently has eight registered Jewish religious communities, with seven synagogues in operation. Additionally, there are Jewish schools and kindergartens available for the community.
Following the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation, which included Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov, visited a Jewish synagogue in Bucharest.
