Azerbaijan updates demining rules in Shusha
Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) has approved amendments to the rules governing demining operations in Shusha.
The changes introduced into the law “On the City of Shusha — Cultural Capital of Azerbaijan”, were discussed at a plenary session of parliament on December 29, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Under the new rules, if a historical monument is discovered during demining work within Shusha, operations must be immediately suspended, and the relevant authority, as designated by the executive branch, must be notified.
The legislation specifies that the decision to resume work will be made by the authority designated by the executive. It also states that demining in areas of historical and archaeological significance must be conducted with the participation of a representative from the relevant executive authority.
The amendments aim to regulate demining activities across Azerbaijan, establishing legal and organisational frameworks and ensuring the protection, both legal and social, of personnel engaged in demining operations.
Following parliamentary discussions, the bill was passed in a single reading.
