Dozens of families have started returning to Aghali village in Azerbaijan’s Zangilan district as part of the large-scale Great Return resettlement programme, following the liberation of the region.
Thus, 41 families, comprising 110 people, are moving back to Aghali at this stage, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Most of the returning residents had previously been temporarily living in other parts of Azerbaijan, including dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative buildings.
The returnees expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for the government’s comprehensive support. They also paid tribute to the Azerbaijani army, honouring the soldiers and officers who secured the territory, and remembered the martyrs who lost their lives in the conflict.

Ali Zamanly, a former displaced resident of Aghali, told reporters he was thankful to the president and the Azerbaijani people for the opportunity to return home.
“Thank God I am returning to my village. May the Almighty bless the souls of the martyrs and grant health to the veterans. I pray for the protection of our state and our people for giving us this day,” he said. “I am overjoyed to be back in my homeland, with my wife, in a house provided by the state. There is no greater happiness than returning to one’s own land.”

He added, “We have endured a lot over the past thirty years. Thanks to the president and our people, we can finally return home. My joy knows no bounds as I come back to my village, my home.”
