Azerbaijani FM criticizes France's decision to skip COP29 as "unconstructive"
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has described France's decision not to participate in COP29 as "an unconstructive approach."
Speaking to journalists, Bayramov emphasized that avoiding the climate conference under any pretext was a wrong move, especially for France, a leading EU country that positions itself as a key player in global climate action, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
Bayramov pointed out that Azerbaijan has always separated climate issues from its bilateral relations with France, stressing that the country has consistently invited French negotiators and representatives to climate-related events. He noted that even prior to the current summit, Azerbaijan had collaborated constructively with French diplomats and experts on climate issues.
“As I noted above, France's non-participation is their own choice,” the minister stated, underlining that Azerbaijan’s stance on climate action remains independent of its diplomatic relations with France.
