Azerbaijani foreign ministry summons Spanish envoy

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has summoned Spanish Charge d'Affaires in Baku Patricia Serrano Sanchez in connection with a provocative publication in support of the separatist regime created as a result of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia.

According to the information provided to Caliber.Az by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the publication was made by the Spanish Foreign, European Union and Cooperation Ministry on X, formerly known as Twitter.

At the meeting, the unacceptability of this publication was emphasised and it was noted that such a step of Spain, which itself is fighting separatism on its territory, is perplexing. It was stated that such an unconstructive approach does not correspond to the spirit of Azerbaijan-Spain relations and is strongly condemned by Azerbaijan.

In turn, Sanchez noted that Spain always supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and this position is unchanged. She stated that the mentioned publication in the social network "X" was a technical error, so immediately after the Azerbaijani side expressed concern it was deleted.

The Azerbaijani side noted the importance of taking measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

To recap, the Spanish embassy in Russia announced the provision of assistance to Armenian separatists in Karabakh. In its publication on X (Twitter), the embassy stated that financial and social support will be provided to 250 families. Moreover, in the publication, the state agency used the so-called "flag" of the Karabakh separatists.

After the protest of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the Spanish embassy in Russia deleted its provocative tweet in support of separatism on the territory of Azerbaijan.
