Demining efforts advance in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh: Nearly 1,300 unexploded ordnance neutralized VIDEO
The Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) has reported the neutralization of nearly 1,300 unexploded ordnance across Karabakh between September 15 and 21, as part of the country’s ongoing demining and post-conflict rehabilitation efforts.
According to ANAMA’s latest weekly bulletin, a total of 1,286 pieces of unexploded ordnance were successfully defused over the course of the week, Caliber.Az reports.
In addition, demining teams identified and cleared 14 anti-tank, and 95 anti-personnel mines during operations conducted across multiple regions.
In total, an area measuring approximately 1,130.6 hectares was cleared of landmines and explosive remnants of war, further advancing Azerbaijan’s long-term objective of rendering liberated zones safe for resettlement, reconstruction, and economic development.
Since the end of the 2020 war, 399 people have been killed or injured by landmines, adding to a toll of over 3,400 victims since the 1990s—including many women and children. ANAMA has cleared roughly 140,000 hectares, yet large swathes remain contaminated.
