Deputy minister: Energy, renewables key to Azerbaijan-Germany partnership
Business ties between Azerbaijan and Germany are rapidly expanding, Deputy Minister of Economy Samed Bashirli stated.
He made the remarks on October 7 during the German-Azerbaijani Export Finance Conference 2025, organised by the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce, according to Caliber.Az correspondent.
"Azerbaijan and Germany have developed strong economic relations over recent years, supported by a legal framework of around 80 signed agreements. Currently, we are implementing a joint roadmap that covers business dialogue, international partnerships, and the exchange of expertise," he noted.
He highlighted that as of early October 2025, 199 German companies are actively operating in Azerbaijan.
Between 1995 and 2024, German investments in Azerbaijan exceeded $900 million, with nearly 94% directed to the non-oil sector, the deputy minister noted. During the same period, Azerbaijani investments in Germany surpassed $600 million. From January to August 2025, bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded $1 billion, positioning Germany among Azerbaijan’s five largest trading partners.
Bashirli emphasised that energy remains the foundation of Azerbaijan-Germany cooperation. The country continues to be a reliable supplier of crude oil and petrochemical products to Germany.
"Amid shifts in the global energy landscape, we are expanding collaboration in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Germany’s leadership in wind and solar energy, advanced engineering, and strong financing mechanisms is especially valuable for our development of wind and solar projects onshore and offshore. The Caspian Basin holds significant potential for large-scale wind energy, offering clear opportunities for joint development, supply chains, and services," he said.
