Georgia and Serbia pledge closer ties as Vučić visits Tbilisi
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who arrived in Georgia on his first official visit, held separate meetings with President Mikheil Kavelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, according to the press service of the Georgian president.
During his meeting with Kavelashvili, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and broader regional developments, with an emphasis on strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.
“At the meeting, we discussed close friendly ties, cultural affinity, shared values, and contemporary geopolitical challenges existing between the two countries,” Kavelashvili said. “We also discussed the need to deepen cooperation between Georgia and Serbia in political, economic, technological, educational, and scientific research areas.”
The Georgian president added that the discussions also touched upon global security concerns and Georgia’s strategic priorities.
“During the meeting, we discussed the current political processes in both countries and also paid attention to the importance of ensuring global peace, security, and stability,” he said. “I emphasised that Georgia, as one of the key links of the Middle Corridor, is interested in expanding partnership with the Western Balkans region, which will contribute to the development of transport and logistics links between Europe and Asia.”
Reaffirming Tbilisi’s policy direction, Kavelashvili underscored continuity in Georgia’s foreign policy approach.
“At the meeting, I once again confirmed that the vector of peace, stability, and economic prosperity chosen by the authorities of Georgia is unwavering,” he stated. “This is also evidenced by our traditional peaceful policy in the South Caucasus, aimed at achieving long-term, sustainable stability in the region and deepening mutual trust between neighbouring states.”
Vučić also held talks with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who highlighted the importance of the visit and expressed gratitude for Serbia’s support for Georgia.
