Georgia, US approve 10-year concept of military cooperation
Representatives of Defense Ministries of Georgia and the US signed a new document in Tbilisi which defines cooperation in the military sphere for 10 years.
First Deputy Defense Minister Lela Chikovani and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia Laura Cooper signed the "Georgia Defense and Deterrence Enhancement Initiative (GDDEI) Bilateral Concept", Georgia Online reports.
"This framework document is intended to define the directions of a new bilateral security cooperation initiative for the coming years," the Georgian Defense Ministry's press service said in a statement.
Chikovani noted that the formalized document is a continuation of the "Defense Enhancement and Deterrence Measures Initiative for Georgia," signed in Tbilisi in October 2021 by Georgian and US defense ministers.
At the meeting with the US delegation, Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze noted the strategic nature of cooperation with the US in the defense sphere and thanked the US side for its support.
Bilateral high-level defense consultations between Georgia and the US are held annually to exchange information, and experience and consider specific areas of cooperation.
